New mothers get help through MOMS

El Camino Hospital's Maternal Outreach Mood Services program, an intensive outpatient program for new and expecting mothers, was the first of its kind on the West Coast when it opened 10 years ago.

I've participated in this program and it made a real difference for me.

I didn't have depression so much as crippling anxiety where I was preoccupied by the terrible things that could happen to my baby and would imagine them all the time. It was really awful, I hardly slept, and I felt ashamed. The program had a name for what was going on with me and treated it with medication and therapy. The condition I had really responded to an integrated, intensive approach like this and I recovered completely. I urge anyone struggling with similar issues to reach out to ECH.
