I went to the LWV Forum on school board candidates and I was struck by longtime Trustee Wheeler's comments and simple campaign handout - she seems to reference the school district to her own, and her own son's success in education. As white lawyer with many higher education opportunities for her and her family, maybe her perceptions are clouded by her own PAST experiences.
Wheeler handout,
"From Bubb to Berkely! With my son on the last day of kindergarten. Commencement Day UC Berkeley!"
"My own experience with my child that went from Bubb to Graham to MVHS to UC Berkeley and then to a job, is that most of the children at Graham were well prepared for MVHS and most of the children at Crittenden are well prepared for LAHS."

Another candidate perspective on reality: survey "asked how strongly do you feel your student will be successful in high school. 89% of students, 59% of teachers agreed. There is a disconnect."
