Thanks for a great article about a really terrific nonprofit in our area, FabMo. One thing I'd like to point out, however, is that FabMo really depends on donations to keep the lights on. Keeping our facility open eats up most of our nearly $90,000 budget each year, and that comes almost completely from donations. When people come and pick up some of our beautiful designer fabric and other discards, we do expect them to leave a donation for us to allow us to carry on the work. Given that most of our materials are not normally available to the public at any cost, our patrons are happy to leave us donations as they leave with their new treasures.

As a teacher and an artisan, I am a HUGE fan of Fabmo. Hannah and Jonathan are unsung heroes who devote huge amounts of time and energy to this endeavor and take no profit other than the satisfaction of knowing they have saved tons of materials from a gate in our landfills. They would never turn away someone who could use their materials and could not afford to pay for them. However, since Fabmo depends exclusively on donations to pay their rent and keep the lights on, I urge those who can to donate generously-of their money, their time, or both.
