Caltrain receives $19M grant for safety improvements

The U.S. Department of Transportation has given an $18.7 million grant to Caltrain to implement advanced technology for monitoring and controlling train movements, according to Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-San Jose, and Rep. Anna Eshoo, D-Palo Alto.

Automated train control will not protect anyone on the tracks from being killed. It is physically impossible for a train to stop quickly enough to prevent these deaths. It is a good thing, however--ATC does slow down/stop the train if it is going too fast and can prevent derailments.
