Facing economic pressures, Ada's Cafe makes plea for donations

Original post made on Jul 13, 2018

Ada's cafe needs our support. Mountain View and Palo Alto are fortunate to have such a cafe. That kind of rent hike is disgusting.

I look forward to leaving Mountain View, a city destined to become a cold, nondiverse, concrete, expensive city for only tech boys.

With all the restaurants in Palo Alto, surely they can find a solution to replace the commercial kitchen in Mtn View. Time for those with deep pockets to step up; and there are a LOT of deep pockets in Palo Alto.

I live in Mountain View, and I completely agree. The City caters to developers like Prometheus and to tech companies. Residents are way down on the list. Hope Ada's finds a solution, with all the money in Palo Alto I would think someone would come up with a solution.

Who is the new owner?

Words can't express my serious disappointment and heartbreak on this. One would think the new owner would be considerate to this business. But, no. Its all about money and more money. it is never enough. I understand why the city or a big corporation like Google can't cough up the money. It is such a puny amount for Google but the new owner will demand more if he/she knows that Google is helping out. Nothing can stop the greed unless there is a major catastrophic disaster or a major war with a a very serious economic depression. Growth especially phenomenal growth in the Bay Area is so bad for people who are in the economic middle class or in the lower rank.

It would be a tragedy if a non-profit that gives so much to the community in terms of providing employment opportunities for so many with developmental differences, was forced to be closed down because of major cost increases, including a 60% rent increase — all of which combined would make continuing on impossible.

To the landlord: This is a non-profit that is providing a valuable service for a greatly underserved part of our community. SHAME ON YOU.

To our coorporate neighbors: Be good community members and help out with this one, please!

To the rest of us us neighbors: Whatever you can give will help. Thank you for caring.

Elena Kadvany,

Why don't you do some real investigative reporting and find out who the new owner is and why a 60% increase.

As a community, we need to start airing out who these individuals are that walk among us.

You people are hilarious. You want to shame the new owner into lowering the rent without any recognition that:

1) This is a new owner who, presumably, paid market price to acquire the property
2) That market price is reflective of market rents. Not current tenant rents.

So, essentially, you want the new owner to lose money so that this charity case can stay in business. And then you are hassling Elena to do some "real investigative reporting"? Don't you think that Ada's management would have given those details when they spoke to Elena if they really wanted them out there? Obviously they do not.

@Reader - if the new landlord bought the property intending to evict a popular and very beneficial charity, city residents have a right to know that. Don't tell me they did not know anything about the charity before buying the property.

@resident

If I do something charitable with my property, does that then obligate anyone who buys that property in the future to continue doing that charitable thing with the property?
