Original post made on Jul 31, 2018

The race for City Council intensified this week after two new candidates joined the contest. Longtime active resident Alison Hicks and former Councilman John Inks have both filed papers to declare their candidacy.

It's good to see John Inks get back on the horse. I always considered him one of the more intelligent and thoughtful council members.

I'm also glad to see that Alison Hicks doesn't sound like the sort of council member who will rubber-stamp developer proposals for yet more rental-housing projects. Hopefully she will be a stabilizing voice on the council to encourage them to focus more on actual home ownership and balance between business development and livability.

"During his time on the council, he opposed tougher gun control laws, increasing the minimum wage, flying the pride flag, and declaring Mountain View a human rights city." About Mr. Inks, from the article.

Additionally, he is a supporter of the sneaky repeal of renter protections which failed to get onto the November ballot. I realize this is already mentioned in the article, but I'm posting just in case not everyone reads the whole article.

Both candidates could not be reached for comment. Generalities aside, what specifically does each candidate propose to accomplish if placed on the City Council? All of the candidates may post their proposals right here on this article. Ok. Go ahead.

Stop it, Jim. You finished last -- repeat, LAST -- in every election you rain in.

@No Way I don't know who you're talking to since I always use my real name when I post. Also, when you say 'Stay in Modesto with your own kind', do you mean Black people? If so, that's not very progressive of you. Lastly, I never 'rain'ed in any election.

That being said, I am strongly endorsing Allison Hicks and John Inks for 2 of the 3 open seats for city council. I really hope that another civic minded person will join in before the deadline. However, I can understand why many people might be reticent to do so based on the vicious vitriol and nasty anonymous personal attacks that people who oppose the special interest agenda are frequently subjected to. I want people to know that if you do run for office, be prepared not just for people to try to attack your ideas, but to try to destroy you personally, shut you up, and then shut you down.

I encourage those who want to make a real difference to run, and if you can't run, then go to council meetings and/or stay active in the forums. Your positive voice can make a difference and/or can influence others to make a difference.

When I said "Stay in Modesto with your own kind," Jim, what I meant is the kind of far-right political types that you hang out with, and whose support you sought here in Mountain View. Putting in race in this discussion only shows how you try and treat every criticism of you as being tinged with racism.

And yes, I did type in "rain" in my post. People can make typing errors in their posts. It happens. What also happens -- and is far less forgivable -- is when people such as yourself continually misrepresent the truth (read: lie) in order to make a point. You have called out for this, and yet, you continue to do this, over and over again.

Mountain View is much better off not having you as a resident.
