There was money in the Budget for extra lunch-recess playground aides And the Money Was Not Spent and extra aides were not hired.

Result - predictably - yet another kid suffered retaliatory bullying (a second round) on the Graham school yard after suffering through a 'first round'.

The latest version of Stanford educational research still shows MVWSD has One Of The 20 Worst White-Hispanic educational achievement GAPS of any of the thousands of districts in their nation-wide data base (Reardon, 2018).

Ok. Mr. Nelson. Got that. I guess you are saying thar school board members cannot be expected to double as district accountants and someone should not get a raise to send that message. I would go further. The school board should set a performance review of the superintendent and ask him who (else) should be fired. If the superintendent has no good answer, he should then have no good job in this district. That is what the school board SHOULD do. But don't hold your breath awaiting such action. You would die waiting.

I had a good friend, a corporate lawyer now deceased, who did pro bono legal work for the grade school and high school boards of a prestigious local city. I asked him why he did it, and he said that he felt that all school boards needed a good lawyer and a good accountant advising them on legal and financial issues. This is a perfect example of just why such advice is needed.

Just wait until District leadership decides that these newly-discovered funds should be used to give themselves raises for chasing away and pushing out great school leaders and bringing in their cronies! Or perhaps to pay for another disastrous math experience on our kids' backs?

Given the fact that they have all that "extra" money.... I have heard from parents across the district talk about how the teachers are given a low budget to get supplies for their classroom. They can hardly buy what the students need, shouldn't they increase it?? i believe that it's unfair for the hard working teachers to have to use their own money to help their students.If the District is unable to increase their budget, then increase their salaries.

Voice Editor Andrea Gemmet, this is by no means "massive", other than in 'an editor's eye'. This is a normal type of mistake but of much less consequence than the PAUSD's accounting mistake, in a single year, in a dangerous direction.

The MVWSD Superintendent admitted to the mistake, he admitted it early, he publicly admitted it to his most concerned constancy (the parents of public school children) and he accepted the responsibility for correcting the problem OF HIS ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM. I wish he were perfect, I wish CBO Clark was perfect. But in this case they were not. They just caught their own mistake - fixed it, and made their mistake publicly known!

Does Steph Curry ever have an off day, an off week? Did he ever have an off period during his first years as a pro? Rudolph was not hired with the expectation that he be perfect in his first few years. None of us on his hiring Board had that expectation. When Clark was hired by an experienced California superintendent (our interim) it was not expected that he would always be perfect (even with his pervious CBO experience).

IMO they are doing well, not perfect. I disagree with them both immensely on the use of LCFF grant funding meant "primarily proportional" for Target students, but they can usually run a tight ship.

I had a friend, a lawyer, who volunteered to do pro bono legal work for both the grade school and the high school boards of a local city. He once told me that he felt that every public school board needs to have high quality legal and accounting support from experienced professionals.

I will happily lend my abacus to the school board.

The district cannot be trusted as a responsible steward of the funding they are currently granted.

Don't ask me for more (taxes) until you solve that.

As I understand it, these were calculations based on anticipated construction costs that turned out to be more favorable than expected. They overcompensated in a conservative manner, seemingly to avoid overspending. Then they realized the miscalculations, went public, first in a letter to all parents, then publicly in the papers. Then they figured out that we now have a surplus...and for that, people are claiming everyone should be fired. I have never seen so much ridiculousness in my life than in the comments of the folks above. Our school district is doing just fine. We’ve got extra cash in the bank, we’ve given our teachers raises, we’re rebuilding our schools. Some people just can’t be happy.

I just looked again at the article. The superintendent did NOT claim any errors in connection with construction projects which involve a different pot of money.That pot may turn out to be short a few doLlars or tens of millions of dollars. Anything can happen when no one is watching.
