Salary?
The library is largely irrelevant to most residents. It is mostly a homeless center, a place for free internet and a place where the RV dwellers can unwind after a long day.
So I'm guessing the salary is close to $200,000.

I used to do taxes for a librarian. You aren't far off Ed.

“Largely irrilevant to most residents”, “mostly a homeless center”, “a place where the RV dwellers can unwind after a long day”? Guess who’s never been to the library.
Being curious or shocked or bitter about the salary of the director is one thing. Denigrate an essential place for the community and reduce it to your intensely unpleasant way of seeing life is another matter. You obviously have no idea what role the library plays in the life of plenty of residents and non residents. You obviously aren’t aware of all the opportunities and programs offered by the library. Your blatant disregard for culture is painful. You should try going to the library. It might open your mind, if you’re up for it.

As a board member of the Friends of the MVPL I am appalled at the above comments. The Library's goal is to
serve all citizens. Hundreds of children attend the weekly
programs learning the importance of the life skill of reading Adults come to check out books, attend classes, and make new friends. It is a busy place.

ED: Your ignorance is showing. I'm betting you don't use any library and probably never did.

I do use our splendid library every week actually, and I am a MV homeowner btw. We are lucky to have such an excellent collection of books, DVD's, CD's and all of the news media you could want to research.
Aaand... every time I'm at the library, I marvel at all the children witht heir parents, bringing books back or picking up shopping bags full of books to check out. Despite the internet addictions that some people (like you for instance) fall victim to... even here in Silicon Valley children are learning to be avid readers of real life books that you hold in your hand and can feel, and smell and set down and pick up. THAT'S THE GOOD NEWS, you silly silly man.

My young children and I use the library often. We enjoy the programs they put on for children and families. We are especially grateful to Ms Sharon, a lovely children's librarian.
