Wow! The fire department enforces the fire code? And on private property? A group of neighbors requested the Mountain View Fire Marshall to enforce violations of the fire code due to people constantly storing bins in the fire lanes and all we got was, "sorry, private property". The fire code specifically states fire lanes cannot be obstructed in any matter.

The bottom line is that the city picks and chooses its battles based on politics and favors. The Fire Chief and Fire Marshall need to go!

First off, umm, dude, we don't care about your personal beef with the city about some bins you've got.

As for this bar owner if he doesn't want to follow the rules, enforcement is overdue. You don't get to ignore fines from violations if you just don't like the laws. This is the whole point of zoning and permits and fire codes. You don't have
to agree with a law. The city has been too patient with this guy.

Also, a comedy act is not entertainment, because there's no charge? That's talk from a crazy man.

They should close this bar until he comes 100% into compliance with the rules. Enough.

@Its for the best

Agreed. The Fire Marshall should enforce the fire code equally and not arbitrarily. One shouldn't be fined for violations unless all others are fined as well.

Otherwise I don't really care about the City's or a few irate neighbors' personal beef with the owners of the establishment.

Such a shame. Let them have their fun.

I'm shocked to hear there are noise and patron issues at one of these alcohol dispensaries.

“ O'Sullivan insisted that a free comedy act should not be considered entertainment.”

Well, he did make that comedic statement to a free newspaper, and I was entertained by it, so...

Mtn. View needs to be diligent about enforcing the fire code. We don't want a Ghost Ship catastrophe here.

Agreed. The Fire Marshall neither knows how to have a good time OR equally enforce the Fire Code. I've had a few encounters and it seems he's just trying to put the bare minimum into the responsibilities he is charged with. He is just there for the cheddar.

That patio was once so Pinterest! Herbal garden with chilies, rosemary & thyme just to name a few. Mural of a steamboat from Uncle Franks artist still there. Misting hose system for the hot days. This establishment has history as a former house from an orchard in Los Altos relocated to this site. Should be labeled a Historical Monument vs a permit violation house that Stephanie Williams has a bias against! A place away from the downtown mainstream for not only professionals to meetup but a mix of diverse individuals that brings a unified group of mixed cultures and personalities to laugh, dance, and be happy from the reality of life's challenges. Francine is rolling in her grave still now while neighbor Lesher pushes his resentment to City Council. He doesn't even live there @ his own property. A bit daft but we must respect our elders, eh?

When you party-goers sober up, uou might suggest that the bar owner read and follow the lawful rules set by the City and get rid of his lawyers while he still has money (or bar tabs) to live on.

Who knew people having fun at a bar was illegal? Only in Mountain View!

Yes, some care about the residents of MV Jim, and since the place as operating outside the law, it was stopped.
Residents first Jim. Obeying the law is also important in MV.
Nothing was changed, only the existing laws on the books were enforced.

I never figured you as someone who would bump an old topic just to throw out a troll-y type comment, spun outside the facts, but Modesto is hot this time of year and that gets to some.

@Uh Yah - Maybe you forgot that I WAS a resident of Mountain View until the policy of building offices at breakneck speed drove rents so high that I could no longer afford to live there.

And since when has the law mattered? There are hundreds if not thousands of people living here who have broken the law to enter the US. Now we're supposed to get picky about what laws get enforced?

And who is trolling? The person using his real name and addressing the topic or the anonymous person engaging in personal insults?

It just so happens that protecting and speaking out about the rights of small businesses such as The Milk Pail, The Sports Page, Cucina Venti and many others that I have defended over the last 10 years is something that I have always done.

And what 'facts' are you talking about? I was using sarcasm, but it doesn't surprise me that some people may not have a grasp of that concept.

The fact as I see it is that the business has been operating there for years and suddenly 'it's a nuisance' because some people are having too good a time. It's like moving next to an airport, then complaining about all the noise from the planes. And if a comic is making people laugh so loud that they're violating the noise ordinance, then I'd say he's a pretty darn good comic and maybe the people complaining should go see him so they can rediscover their sense of humor.

Jes' sayin!
