A terrorist, foreign fighter, murderer,or homicidal maniac who would shoot up a school is not likely to obey a gun law. There already are as many guns in private ownership in the USA as persons. Ammo already is stockpiled. US companies sell weapons of mass destruction and murder to regimes and rebels around the world. What goes around, comes around. Little legal changes will not help much, although surely there are some loopholes to close and weapons to at least declare unlawful. The key is to not be an easy target. Even terrorists seem to pick easy targets and try to survive - if only to kill another day. Moreover, killers are not the only potential intruders at schools amd guns are not the only dangerous weapons. How about a bomb? Not just a bomb scare. One hedge against attacks of all kinds is a camera system. It should be no secret. Potential attackers should know our schools are protected - at least by cameras - operating around the clock. Such a system surely is cheap nowadays. Most bad-guy outsiders would skip Mountain View and hit a city with school boards still jawing about gun laws. And current students who think classrooms are videogame shooting galleries would be more likely stopped with the assistance of a camera system. Much more is needed, but cameras are a start. Ultimately, schools may need to get much smaller to become less-inviting targets. Outdoor concerts next to a Trump Tower. No more. High-speed rail on an easily blown railline. Stupidity. Bart should only be a TV character we will never forget. Even Bart Simpson would realize that BART is too vulnerable to attack. Or, one can do nothing but HOPE AND/OR PRAY that bad things do not happen - here. Don't live in fear. But do live in reality.
