Come on. Everyone knows the Los Altos district is going to use the site for elitist Bullis Charter - not a neighborhood school for the San Antonio area. No one is fooled.

The questions in the article apply equally to any charter school use or any neighborhood school use. LASD is planning to construct PERMANENT buildings which will be there for 50 years or more. The park use is affected by whatever is constructed as well as how it is used. A new school might not be ready for use until 4 years from now, so this should be in the context of what will be happening then and for the next 50 years.

Also, over the life of 50 years, the use might change. So if they condemn the land then they have a big payment immediately followed by a year of court action where the owners seek more payment. They have to design a building and layout, get the state approval on that, go out to bid on construction and actually build. When they open in 3 or 4 years, they MIGHT use it for a charter school, but there will have been 4 more years of growth dated from last August when this year began. The enrollment in the other district schools will change by then, either down or up, probably shifting more into the San Antonio area. Then each year the local population will probably increase some more. At some point they will face some pressure to use it for a local school, and then the design needs to fit that use. The LASD board is still planning for 10 years ago, but the school has to fit into the world that will exist in the future.
