District programs like this one are losing students to both private homeschooling and a growing number of public Independent Study charter schools that support home schoolers and provide more flexible funding for classes and learning experiences in the community. For anyone looking for publicly funded homeschool programs or homeschool support groups, the Homeschool Association of California keeps a list of both, by county, on their website. Web Link

More information on homeschooling resources in Santa Clara County can be found here, on the Peach Blossom School website. I am the Director of Peach Blossom School, a private satellite program that supports homeschooling families.

I'm sad to hear that the independent study program is being discontinued. I utilized an ISP for a time in high school when I was very sick and unable to attend normally. It is a valuable middle ground between traditional school and full home education. Hopefully this decision will be revisited and this resource will be available for students who can benefit from it.

This is definitely a blow for homeschoolers in the area, but there are still options for those homeschooling in CA: Web Link
