Metallic balloons could cause power outages on Valentine's Day

PG&E officials warn that unsecured metallic balloons can fly into power lines and cause dangerous outages, putting a damper on upcoming Valentine's Day celebrations.

If these products are causing so many dangerous problems in cities across the state, why can't the state just ban all sales? Clearly the existing law about not releasing the balloons is not enough. Short circuiting power lines can cause wildfires and wildfires have been ravaging the state in recent years.
