Original post made on Jan 25, 2018

These all make sense. The marijuana tax seems high, does anyone know how much the alcohol tax is in Mountain View? There's no reason why marijuana's tax should be any higher (or different).

Let's use the money to invest in transit or roadways, for everyone (e.g. hello better bike lanes!)

Its really quite apparent that the folks who are proposing these new taxes are not retired. Has anyone looked at their property tax bill lately? In addition to property taxes we have:
SCVWE safe and clean water tax
Mosquito tax #1
Mosquito tax #2
MV Whisman Measure C
SCVWD Flood Tax
1% max levy
CO Bond 2008 Hospital tax
CO Retirement levy
Comm College Bond
El Camino Hospital 2003 tax
Elementary school Bond
High School Bond
Mid Peninsula Open space tax

And City of Mtn utilities up 10% almost every year, DMV, telephones all have taxes and we pay additional sales taxes depending on which county your in. Enough is enough already. VOTE NO TO ANY MORE BONDS and TAXES. How about that fast train to no where??? Cannot wait for the bond measure to pay for that boondoggle.

The state sales tax should be extended to services, such as short and long term rental services, accounting services, financial services, legal services, etc. Certain services should be excluded, such as doctor and hospital services, education services (schools), and others. The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (formerly the Board of Equalization) is responsible for administering the sales tax.

It would probably require a new law to extend the tax to services. The tax currently applies to "merchandise" only, and numerous merchandise items, such as raw foods purchased in the grocery store are exempt. The law or, better, the Department should decide what services should be excluded.

The sales tax naturally falls most heavily on poor people because it is a flat tax; everyone pays the same tax on the same item. The purpose of the exclusions is the mitigate this regressive impact.

If you read the article, you'll see that taxes only apply to: 1) marijuana purchases, 2) large companies, and 3) hotels and AirBnB's. Retired homeowners are unaffected.

Now that you're retired, maybe you'll have some time to read the entire article before passing judgement? :)

Do you call companies with 3 or more employees LARGE company?? Small business in this city has already been struggling and squeezed to the maximum and you want to tax them some more? Have you tried to get anything done through city planning and building lately? So much bureaucracy and run around just to get every little simple things done. Rather than focus on more ways to squeeze more money out of people here, maybe the city councils should be focusing on improving city services and efficiencies first.

A company that has three or more employees is a large company? That is the insanity of local politicians! Tax, tax and tax. None of them has ever owned a small business. Mine is getting crushed by California Workers Comp insurance, rent, minimum wage, and now even more taxes for the just my little business in Mountain View? Everyday I wonder why I work so hard in my small business... then I remember that Google will not hire me!!!!!

More money for city employees. The City Manager is Dan Rich. He used to be Dan Well Off. Now he is RICH. Publish their current compensation.
