"The first person"? Really? Is the newspaper gearing up for more deaths by Caltrain this year? Seems like a dark thing to anticipate…

Unfortunately, CalTrain deaths are all too common. at least 9 in 2017, I couldn't readily find an annual tally. But this article from 2012 indicated at the time an average of 12 a year.

Sad, depressed, feeling hopeless? Don't go out this way, it's horrible, and it causes trauma to everyone in the community from your family to your friends, the train engineer and conductors, the first responders on the scene, the wider community. I've see the effects of a botched attempt at suicide and it still traumatizes me 2 decades later. Seek help instead, and know you're problems are present but not permanent.

If you, or someone you know, is in suicidal crisis or emotional distress please call 1-800-273-TALK (8255) right away. Help is there for you, and you are not alone. You can also read about suicide warning signs and prevention strategies here: Web Link
