Original post made on Jan 20, 2018

As the nation teeters on the edge of a government shutdown, the Bay Area's federal agencies are preparing to close down indefinitely. Starting Monday, thousands of civil servants are expecting to go on furlough as soon as they finish shutting down their operations.

Actually, in 2013 civil servants were paid retroactively. However, many contractors were not.

Federal workers be like "Snow day!" Please just leave the National Park gates open this time instead of blocking the roads with barriers like you did on your last extra 2.5 week paid vacation.

@Snow day I don't know of any federal worker that thinks of this as a "snow day". We just want to be able to go to work and do our jobs.

@Furloughed Federal Worker

Then go to work. Just show up and start working. What's stopping you? You will get paid anyway when it all shakes out.

To all active federal employees and private sector workers who would like to know the fallout of the current government shutdown. If there is no approved government spending budget, that means only essential workers will be authorized to continue working. All other workers including government contractors and 3rd party vendors who support their local federal government agency will not be allowed to enter any federal government facility. No budget, means No work or paycheck until a budget is passed.

@Private Sector Worker
Believe me, if we could, many of us would. We are prohibited by law from continuing our work and we would not be able to enter the buildings should we try. Federal employees could get into BIG trouble if they continue to work during a shutdown.

Also, back pay is far from guaranteed. I wouldn't be surprised if we are not given it this time. This is a problem for the many federal workers that rely on those funds to provide for their families.

@Furloughed Federal Worker

That sounds just awful. But you are getting just a hint of what it's like to work in the private sector where nothing is guaranteed in at-wlll employment

@Furloughed, perhaps you should petition the Democrats and ask them why illegal immigrants are more important than you and your family?

@mvresident,

How many Republicans in the Senate voted for the Continuing Resolution? (hint: fewer than 50).

Now, now, LOL -- the so-called "mvresident" can't handle facts.

It prefers the "alternative facts" provided by Fox "News," don't you know?

Regarding our beloved federal gumment: Who's in charge here?!?
Run the do-nothings out whoever they are.

Does the shutdown include the ICE agents that we have seen wandering around Mountain View?
