VTA introduces new fare app

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority has unveiled a new, free mobile payment app called EZfare.

I can hardly wait to see the next headline about this: "riders ticketed for expired fares." And the next: "bus riders jailed for failing to pay fines." And the next headline: "VTA rider personal information hacked and sold world-wide; lives ruined."

EZPay appears to be a separate payment system. Clipper Card is an NFC touchless prepaid payment card that is supported by multiple transit agencies.

EZPay is specific to VTA only and charges to a credit card/debit card/PayPal account at the time the fare is purchased. It is done on a smartphone and there is no interaction with the Clipper Card terminals.
