Does Mountain View really have a Gold Rush past? Wasn't the Gold Rush in the Sierra foot hills?
Anyway this sounds interesting.

The most accessible book about the history of Mountain View -- in which you can find out whether there is a connection to the Gold Rush -- was written several years ago by Nick Perry and published by Arcadia. See Web Link
About the Author -- Nicholas Perry is a fourth-generation Mountain View resident and author of several in-depth historical articles for the Mountain View Voice and Palo Alto Weekly. He has drawn from the extensive photographic archives of the Mountain View Historical Association and the Mountain View Library to create this visual journey through time, bringing us from the sun-striped orchards of long ago to the prosperous technological powerhouse of today.

David Boyer's documentary is also available on the web at theintersection.fm
I've only listened to the trailer so far, but it certainly caught my attention, and I'll definitely be listening to the other episodes (two are currently available).

Sorry for the confusion, @Huh?. I meant his podcast, which genre-wise is a documentary. There's a 2-minute trailer, or preview or season sneak-peak or whatever it's called, and two episodes so far. It's in iTunes, on his website, or on KALW.
I listened to episode 1 meanwhile, and part of episode 2. He paints (IMHO, of course) a fair and accurate picture of Google vs Mountain View.

Is there a transcript available for hard of hearing?

@Genosgranny, you can send them a note and ask. Their contacts page has both a form for submitting a note as well as a link to their email address.
