A physics lesson with projectile pumpkins

Tuesday afternoon was a sight to behold at Landels Elementary, as one by one, students launched grapefruit-sized pumpkins across the campus field.

One reason I find this so refreshing is that it's teaching the love of learning rather than just teaching a particular topic. We've become so consumed with Common Core and measuring achievement that we've lost sight of the equally important outcome from school: cultivating a love of learning that will impel students into higher education and appreciating a lifelong adventure in learning.

Plus we got something valuable from a lot of leftover pumpkins.
