Original post made on Oct 17, 2017

"both schools are already more or less at capacity."

What does that mean? More than capacity or less than capacity?

Also, I am voter, a resident and have a child in LAHS. I didn't get polled or surveyed about any of this. Who are they polling, who are the pollers, and who is coming up with these numbers? Is it possible that these numbers are skewed?

Freestyle Academy? Really?

I’m getting tired of paying additional taxes for schools. I’m already paying over $1500/year additional in school taxes. They need to learn to operate within their existing budgets. Enough is enough. I don’t think the taxpayers should be funding “Freestyle Academy.” If parents want specialized training for their high school kids they can pay for it themselves.

First of all, the complete story as I have heard it is that Freestyle would move to the land described, freeing up its current spot for more badly needed MVHS classrooms. Those portables must be replaced in any event; they're old and decrepit and aren't even ADA accessible.

Second, why the hostility to Freestyle? It's a choice program at which MVHS and LAHS students spend half their day, taking English (a core class that all high school students take each year) plus two electives (Design plus either Film, Digital Media or Animation). Your tax dollars pay for other English classes and arts electives; why do you see this one as so different?

Our goal should be successful graduation of all students in the community, whether they are best served by LAHS, MVHS, LAHS/MVHS with Freestyle, Middle College or Alta Vista.

@MVHS Parent. I don't have any hostility towards alternative learning.

Although, I do agree with Tapped Out. I'm tired of paying extra taxes for this and that, the schools need to work within their budget, and the parents should pay for education that is alternative (not within the main stream).

Many parents, including myself, volunteer for various things such as fundraising, tutoring and recycling. We teach by example, these activities are very valuable to the school. (Yay volunteers!)

I don't have solar, I don't have a pool, etc. Those are "nice to have" things that are super expensive, but not really required.

Rather than invest further in LAHS and MVHS, why is there no proposal to open a new high school campus nearer to all of the new housing growth? Why are these new students traveling 2.5 miles to school, when they could attend one near their homes? This whole bond issue is misguided.
