This is of course penalizing those who choose to do the right thing by using public transportation rather than attempting to fill the underutilized trains that are already running half empty at non commute times and weekends.
Where are the free parking lots after 3.00 pm?
Where are the family tickets for weekends and holidays?
Where are the off peak fares for those who start their trip after 10.00 am?
All these innovations would get new riders at very little initial outlay. Other worldwide systems offer incentives to get people to use offpeak and weekend trains, and to use them for evening activities. Caltrain should do the same.
