Water District Construction Project at Palo Alto Flood Basin

Original post made by John Mellon, Shoreline West, on Aug 22, 2017

I heard recently from a couple of folks that the Santa Clara Valley Water District will be closing the bike trail around the Palo Alto Flood Basin because of some construction project. I hear the project will cause them to closing of the bike trail will last for months. Does anyone know how they plan to re-route the bike commute around this construction and the timing for this project?. I am petrified. Because when they did some work around the basin about five years ago, it was hell on earth getting to work safely through Palo Alto flood basin area. Because the basin was stagnant for a while, there was an explosion in the population of mosquitoes and, boy, did I suffer for it because of the bites on my arm and legs. I would want to know what they plan to do and how they plan to accommodate bicyclists and people who use this area to enjoy nature. Are they cities of Mountain View and Palo Alto working with the Water Board member Gary Kremen to address this problem before it turns into another crises?

The best thing for you to do is contact the Water District Capital Projects division and ask them to answer your questions.
