Well, this sounds like what christianity is suppose to be doing, no matter which branch you talk about. I hope all churches in our town will follow suit and help the homeless as much as possible.

Because christianity so often falls short of its claims to compassion and social awareness, with narrow-minded greed so often apparent in the priorities of "believers", I stopped attending any church years ago BUT TODAY I SAY "BRAVO !!! " to Trinity United Methodist Church and my very best wishes to the ministers and congregation. Bless your hearts.

Many thanks to Trinity Church for stepping up to provide this much needed service. And thanks to CSA, Joe Simitian, SC County & Mtn View for helping with the project. Utilizing the new kitchen for job training for the homeless is a great idea!

One question: If the intersection of Hope and Mercy is "near" downtown and Trinity United Methodist Church is on "the edge" of downtown, where is downtown? The intersection is one block off Castro! That's about as downtown as one can get, isn't it?

When the Armory was open in Sunnyvale, various church and community groups volunteered to serve food to the homeless patrons. Sometimes the groups even supplied the food, though much of the time it was brought up from the San Jose Boccardo Center.

Will the Mountain View shelter be needing such volunteer groups to help Trinity Methodist with this project? This is a great opportunity for local churches and neighborhood associations to work with together with MV Trinity.

What does Google do? After all, they made all this homelessness around Mountain View.

@Gaggle

How did Google make all this homelessness, pray tell? The homeless people around Mountain View are not only residents priced out by high rents, they're as mixed as you will find anywhere. I've lived in declining cities in the rust belt, and let me tell you, the problems of not enough money are a lot worse than those of too much money. I sincerely wish that residents here would quit opposing housing development so we don't lose more people and turn into a tech-only enclave, but the homeless are a separate problem.

If you ever work in a homeless shelter, or a soup kitchen, you will see that a lot of homeless people are homeless because they're mentally ill, or substance abusers, and you will find few locals who were priced out of housing, because those people still have the skill or resources to move somewhere that they an afford.
