Why doesn't this article say anything about the police searching for the perp? Did the victim wait so long that searching was no longer useful?

Come one people, if you're going to jog by yourself, do everyone a favor and carry a phone with you, then call the police immediately if you have a problem. Use your phone to take a photo of the perp so the police can identify him. Especially in cases like this where the victim is with other people and can provide some protection and also help to identify the perp.

I run on Steven's Creek trail often. If I ever see a person exposed, I am NOT going to stop and take pictures, sorry. Can you imagine his reaction?

I am going to run as fast as I can away from the person. When I feel it is safe, I will use the phone that I do carry to call the police.

However not all runners carry a phone, frankly it is not convenient. And there was a day when cell phones did not exist...the world did not come to an end. While they are convenient, we don't have to be tethered to them...

@user of the trail - criminals were more likely to get away with their crimes before cell phones were common. If you witness a crime and don't do all you can to help the police catch the criminal, then you are partially to blame for his next crime. The police think this crime is serious enough to issue a press release.

If it's possible to photograph the perp discree try that's fine. Otherwise the perp may chase you, and catch you. Not worth the risk.

It occurs to me that this is a situation where Google Glass would be useful.

Not trying to be inflammatory, but the thought crossed my mind...

A runner could likely outrun the perp. Take photo and run off...

And the perp on a bicycle... one good shove throws him off the bicycle, incapacitated for long enough to run off...

I'm not advocating hurting someone, but I think people should know at least a couple of tricks on how to defend themselves.

Here is an idea, but a funny one , though. How about running with a Go Camera on your head, so that any creepy person or crimes are easily identified.

I in no way indicated do nothing. My post clearly states I would get to a safe place first and then report.

The chances of him catching someone are far more likely if a runner stops to take a picture, especially when the perpetrator is on a bike and pissed off because the runner just took a photo.

I find it disheartening that the person who reported this is being judged for not taking photos, not reporting it sooner or not pushing a man on a bike, further victimizing a victim.

@user of the trail

I'm sorry if you felt that my statement is victimizing a victim.

It's always been my understanding that sympathy does not help victims, but empowerment does; and that was the point of my comment.
