If Measure B does not pass 2/3 required), the school board can place another measure on the ballot in short order. That measure could propose a fairer tax ("uniformly applied") and tighten up how the proceeds may be spent - to decrease the risk of waste and abuse. And maybe the next measure will follow the departure of a superintendent who spends first (on TTO) and asks for permission later.

I am writing to thank former Mountain View trustee Steve Nelson for his letter urging a "No" vote on Measure B (p. 17, 4/28/17 "Viewpoint") even though I don't agree with his final recommendation. His letter contains a message that is lost amidst all the general praise for the Measure; that is, it would be extremely easy for the students themselves to see no benefit from the extra funding if the districts do not have their spending priorities straight. His letter points out that the money may likely go to administrators' salaries. I wrote a letter, that the Voice has not printed, pointing to the Teach-to-One fumble as an example of how money has been wasted in the past and is likely to be wasted in the future. These are not sound justifications for a tax increase for the homeowners of Mountain View. That would only come from seeing and approving the districts' spending priorities up front.

In order to vote for or against Parcel Tax Measure B, voters in the Mountain View Whisman District must get their ballot envelopes postmarked by Tuesday, May 2. Some MV residents are in the Los Altos Elementary District. Lucky you.
