RBA's farewell show anything but blue

Original post made on Apr 27, 2017

AJ Lee's singing was fantastic. After seeing her perform last weekend I've viewed several of her YouTube videos and I particularly like her version of the Grateful Dead's "Ripple."

She's the best young local musician I've seen since Taylor Eigsti.

Dang, I didn't even ~know~ there was a bluegrass jam in MV, and now it's gone :(
Guess I better join the Redwood Bluegrass Association, if IT is still around... Thanks for the reporting.

I went to the final show and enjoyed it...always nice to hear live music.

Does anyone know the reason RBA is closing down, and whether there's any hope of someone else taking this on? Does it relate to the loss of a venue? Is it that the organizers of RBA have just become tired and want to move on?

With so many passionate enthusiasts in the audience, it seems strange that someone (or group of someones) isn't taking over the reigns. Is there some other underlying reason for shutting this down? (I'm sure the actual musicians are still going to be playing...somewhere).

Yes, Sharon Gilchrist played with Keith Little, Avram Seigle and Blaine Sprouse. That's the band also that had AJ Lee and Sullivan Tuttle come up on stage. From what I hear, some of the people who put the RBA shows on have moved, and the others are just getting tired--- it's a lot of work. They're hoping other people might take over the job.

There is a group trying to get keep the RBA going but the board is against it. Peter Thompson's reasons the article such as an aging audience and the younger generation preferring dance space and alcohol are certainly valid. However, the "rescue" group feels these can be addressed. The burn-out factor will require new volunteers for set-up, tear down, pie sales and other show day support. A venue that allows alcohol is known and s dabce in the rear or side could be setup. A mix of local and visiting "modern" bluegrass/Americana bands would be added to the traditional performers. Outreach to a younger audience would be made.

What is needed is evidence of audience support and contributions of time and perhaps money such as sponserships to enable at least a one year trial.

There is a website (Web Link and a Yahoo group (Web Link Let us know what kind of RBA you want to see in the future and how you can help.
