With tte installation by the pro-landlord City Council of outspoken Measure V opponent Tom Means as the potential swing vote, the landlords have the means to undermine rent control using the rent board.

The emphasis on independent thinking non-emotionally invested board members was the right approach. Although the renter's coalition barely prevailed on popular vote, its amateurish conduct was correctly noted by the learned Council and they adjusted accordingly, they earned their keep on resolving a difficult situation.
