Council seeks to solve some familiar challenges

Original post made on Mar 6, 2017

Brainstorming their list of big-ticket priorities for the coming years, Mountain View City Council members on Monday night ended up with what seemed like a carbon copy from last time. Why isn't Mountain View currently collecting any money (i.e., revenue) in transit-occupancy taxes from Airbnb rentals? It's required by city ordinance so why isn't it enforced? They city could be raising revenue from such rentals as well as any fees from the required business licenses. Is this all part of the sanctuary city model? Can we call off police enforcement of traffic laws as well? Either enforce the ordinances and laws or get rid of them. But don't selectively enforce the ones you like and ignore the ones you don't for political purposes. And if the city does, then how about posting a list of which laws and ordinances are being enforced or ignored each month so there's a level playing field for all?

Sorry but if they are illegal they are NOT part of the community. Stop wasting our taxpayer dollars on non-citizens.

Tell that in person to your neighbors, that solely because of their immigration status, they are not part of your community.

Frankly, yours is the more disgusting sentiment. You reject our friends, families, and neighbors, who have certainly contributed more to this community than your divisive rhetoric.
