this is a Thumb Up. (IMO) there are some obvious Thumb Down processes in the MVWSD (reported in the same print edition of the Voice) - and this is a counter example.

Dr. Rudolph undertook this, with a Superintendent's committee, in a process that he knew full well 'had to be done' but that Dr. Skelly, a long time superintendent and district level administrator - had previously failed at. As Dr. Skelly publicly warned us (with a rueful tone) 'redistricting schools is a task that a superintendent tries to take on ONLY in the last year just before they retire'.

Open & Public process, in a DATA driven environment, with clear direction from the Board and clearly written and articulated Instructions from the Chief Administrative Officer (Dr. Rudolph). The priorities are clear. The committee charge is clear. The tradeoffs, as they are worked out -ARE CLEAR TO ANYONE FOLLOWING THE PROCESS.

Hard community decisions, in a local democracy, IMO do not get done any better than this!

SN is a former Trustee of the MVWSD, and was 1/5 responsible for hiring Dr. Rudolph

Castro is not the answer for current Bubb students unless Castro is brought up to Bubb level. Shoreline West students currently going to Bubb will be penalized and dramatically affected by being forced to go to chronically low performing Castro. There doesn't seem to be a problem having Shoreline West kids cross El Camino Real to go to Graham so I think that arbitrary line to go to Bubb is not valid. Anyway a large number of Shoreline West parents drive their kids to Bubb. I understand the student enrollment leveling but Castro enrollment and performance will not get better.

Mr. Nelson, I take exception to your assertion that Dr. Skelly failed. His process produced a set of options that were viable and well considered and data driven. The Board, on which you sat at the time, chose not to act. So, in my mind, that failure would rest with you and the other Board members. While I'm at it, I'm not sure why you would consider it a failure at all. You all chose not to accept the recommendations of the previous effort, then you made a significant change in policy (to open Slater) then you chose to begin the process again. Where's the failure?

@CFrink I believe that you were a member of the committee that did not come up with any option that was acceptable to the Board. I consider that FAILURE. A lot of community effort and district expense for no viable option. Not one.

The Committee you served on Mr. Frink, was set up by the previous Superintendent. Dr. Skelly inherited it, and decided to continue it in the format that he found in January 2015. A lot of community effort and district expense for no viable option. Not one. I consider that a failure. (IMO the answer to your question to me)
