They didn't ask about Trump's Muslim registry?

"They didn't ask about Trump's Muslim registry?"
They never asked Obama about his law-abiding-citizens gun-owners registry either. Why not?
Besides, the "registry" being proposed was for non-citizens, which already exists by the way. The issue was making a sub-set of the list of non-citizens who originated in specific countries and based on those origins they may add some further efforts in the vetting process. As usual, the details are what's important.

As far as the presidential election is concerned, California might as well be. It's been several decades since California voters have made any real difference in the presidential election.
Both Democrats and Republicans have only one need for California, as a source of big-money donors to their respective parties. And the big-money donors in California are very balanced in general, but the total money can be swayed quite a bit. The presidential candidates TV commercials in California are not aimed at voters at all, but to wealthy partisan supporters, most of which are single-issue donors.
The last time California voters honestly mattered in the presidential general election was Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
Politics in California are much like politics in Wyoming and several other states where one party has such lop-sided control of the state' voters that the state outcome cannot be swayed by any effort either candidate makes.
