Sigh. What's wrong with people? Donald Trump is certainly a contentious president, but what does inconveniencing thousands of commuters going to accomplish, other than building ill will towards these protesters? Bosses don't care why you were late, just that you were.

Yeah, look at these jerks inconveniencing all the people needing to use this bridge: Web Link

Why can't protestors do something that doesn't inconvenience anyone?

Why didn't the protesters just go to the inauguration to speak to Trump directly? TV news coverage shows a mostly empty field in front of Trump, as opposed to a huge crowd in front of Obama.

@resident, not everyone can afford a flight out to Washington DC.

Think global, act local.

Not "getting" the difference between, for example, demonstrating against deeply entrenched institutional injustices during the Civil-Rights movement of half a century ago on the one hand, and whining and wrecking things because your candidate lost an election on the other, is a central element of the current narrative.

Trump himself is an institutional injustice.

I'm from Palo Alto, hence the another community identification -- but from nearby. I care about Mt View, so I read the Voice. Meantime, it is childish and creates ill will to block commuters, whether on Caltrain, the Dumbarton Bridge, the middle of 880 freeway or whatever. Peaceful protests held legally and in compliance with the law works best and permits free expression. Stopping the public, ambulances, deliveries, etc. on transit or on other forms of transportation is offensive, frankly. Donald Trump IS the U.S. President and it proves anyone can be elated president in this country, a great thing. In four years someone else may be elected. Stop your tantrums (signed, NOT from a Trump supporter)

I think it is OK to protest but I feel that they should not affect Caltrans, buses, and trains. Yes it is true that Donald Trump is our president now and I feel these protesters are not happy, I myself is not a Donald Trump voter but the protesters should do this in piece

@resident mostly empty field? Did you actually watch the inauguration? Sad that CNN/MSN etc have to misrepresent Trump's turnout by showing the crowd way before the proceedings began, as people were still filing in.

No matter how you slice it, this was NOT a 'mostly empty field':

and another: Web Link

Original video: Web Link Screencaps taken at around 3hrs 24mins and 3hrs 32mins in. If you start from the beginning, you will see where the very dishonest media gets their data from (people filing in early that morning!) so wrong of them, but as Jeb Bush would say 'DUDNT MADDER'...

Let's go by the numbers, ktpi, where Trump got about 250K for his inauguration, and Obama got almost 2 million in 2009. Sad!

Look at photos that are facing the podium, and you'll see the vast swaths of empty space. Much like the areas that voted for Trump.

But of course, when you can't win on the facts, complain about the media.

Ok Randy, did you see my comment? I was making the point that the field wasn't 'mostly empty' and those shots (from CNN etc) facing the podium are from over 3 hours before Trump began his speech. If you look at the screen shots you will see a very NOT empty field. And according to our govt, they haven't released any official attendance figures.

Yeah, you keep posting photos facing the crowd rather than facing the podium. That makes it easy to miss the wide swaths of empty space. There's a side by side crowd shot facing the podium taken at the same time of day for both 2009 and 2017 where the difference is stark. Plus it was 28 degrees out for Obama. Face it, it's not a media conspiracy, Trump is wildly unpopular, which is why he lost the popular vote.
