Police won't aid federal crackdown on undocumented, chief says

Original post made on Jan 20, 2017

Police Chief Max Bosel promised a packed room at the Mountain View Day Worker Center on Jan. 9 that local law enforcement would not cooperate with federal immigration agents. It was the latest in a string of pledges from local officials they would take no part in any effort by the incoming Donald Trump administration to crack down on undocumented residents.

Make hiring an illegal alien a felony punishable by 1 year in prison and/or a $5,000 fine.

Problem solved

Cue liberal outrage

I live in Mountain View and I hope this city and Santa Clara County lose ALL federal funding under the new Administration. This lawlessness is ridiculous. This article is being shared with the appropriate federal representatives.

The best thing about this election is that it's caused people like Danny here to self-identity as deplorable. Just saves everyone time, if you ask me.

You're welcome. I have nothing to be afraid of. I am in favor of enforcing federal law. I am part of the 30% of legal voters in California who didn't vote for Secretary Clinton. If CA, SCC, and MTV want to do all this, they can pay for it without federal funding.

Sure, you are, Danny. That's why you don't even have a neighborhood in Mountain View.

We'll be fine in California, we give more federal funds than we get already. Once the fed cuts us off, we'll turn off that spigot of cash that they're so dependent on from us.

In addition to other avenues of collection, I guess you have forgotten that a large portion of federal revenue comes directly out of wages which are paid on behalf of the worker by the employer. Employers are not going to stop doing that and be in violation of federal law. But, as you said, we'll be fine.

Hey, I'm just playing along with your delusional fantasy. Which email address did you send this article along to? All the way to Dear Leader himself?

Yes, unlike the opposition, I am going the legal route and it is not necessary for me to destroy property to do it. That's quite delusional.

Whoa, direct line to Dear Leader. You must be real important, I'm sure he's going to put his best people on the case. We'd better watch out!

i find it despicable that a police dept and government would openly defy our laws. you can't just make this up as you go along...we have laws...making citizens abide by the law and encouraging illegals who are breaking our laws is wrong and stupid and it is not working...the situation is getting worse.. like prop 47...that situation is getting worse and harming law abiding citizens.

As usual, it's people from other communities telling us how to live.

We care about our neighbors here and don't want our community torn apart. Outsiders keep coming in with their divisive, dehumanizing rhetoric, but we won't stand for it.

Given the choice between otherwise law-abiding members of our community, and divisive, dehumanizing, hateful people like yourself and Deplorable Danny, we've chosen to protect our community. We have love for our neighbors, and we are stronger because of it. This is why Trump has been so soundly rejected in California.

So, we get to pick and choose which laws are observed at the local level? Does this apply to incomplete stops at Stop signs, or use of turn signals? Given the notion of a so-called "sanctuary city", what is the incentive for an illegal alien to seek US citizenship? BTW, the Moderator of this column should delete the comments of individuals that are directed at others, and confine postings to individual sentiments.

Well, despite you being absolutely incorrect about me being an outsider, Frank, (I live at Central Expressway and Moffett/Castro so there) it is fine for this community to harbor all the illegal aliens that it wants, as long as the community understands that it will have to do everything without any federal funding. I am willing to bet that if and when the federal funding gets cut to every law-breaking body, then the community may not be so happy to shoulder the financial burden of your idyllic city, schools, hospitals, and the rest.

The final thing you are incorrect about is assuming that so few people feel the way that I do. If they all felt like you, then perhaps President Trump and the Republicans would not have won the election. But they did and despite CA's best attempts, the illegal votes from California couldn't get Secretary Clinton over the top where it mattered (Electoral College).

I doubt the rest of America is in the mood to fund California and its bodies' illegal activities and if California wants to break away (laugh), much of America would welcome it and we could finally put to rest the notion that the US couldn't survive without California.

Aw, it's cute that you've bought Dear Leader's line about California. "Millions of illegal votes!" The true test of a good follower, parroting obvious lies. Next you'll tell us there were 2 million people who turned up for the inauguration.

Look at the scoreboard here: you're heavily outnumbered, buddy, and your Dear Leader is the least popular president since we began recording presidential approval ratings. On the plus side, you walk around calling yourself "Deplorable."

Well, time will tell if your side gets its way or my side gets its way. I will just leave you with this:

"Ignoring public safety, several California legislators are preparing to introduce bills to further impede federal officials. The Legislature hired former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to assist, but he will be incapable of preventing sanctuary legislation from causing the loss of major federal funding. A sanctuary city defunding proposal was decided for the 2017 Department of Justice budget in an agreement between House Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman Rep. John Culberson, R-Texas, and U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch."

Your posting is the gift that keeps on giving. To support your case, you posted an op-ed from the guy in California that's been trying to end birthright citizenship. Please, educate us all some more, it's a great lesson as to why the Republican party is dying in California.

Tell us more about the "millions of illegal votes" and inauguration crowd size.

You don't seem to be very informed about this issue, but that is irrelevant,

You'll never win your arguments if you make it personal or are unable to support your position and I am pretty certain that the number of likes to your posts is not indicative of what the future holds.

I'm sure you'd have more likes if you remove the millions of illegal likes from California ;-)

More seriously, I'll have to note that your post contains no substance at all, and you've yet to even pretend to support your assertion of illegal votes. It's far more indicative of the media bubble you've put yourself in, where Dear Leader can do no wrong.

It's sad, really, but to quote Trump, in a more family-friendly form, it's not your fault you were born messed up!

You are certainly entitled to your opinion.

It is similar to states' rights. The state of California believes it has the right to thwart federal law and conversely the federal government has the right to discontinue funding the offending bodies within the state until they comply with federal law.

Good luck with your objective of harboring illegal aliens on my/the federal dime.

No need to respond. Life calls!

Aw, don't go. I wanted to hear about the illegal votes in California. That sounded really exciting. I still can't get over how cute it is that you keep posting with "Deplorable" in your name.

We give more to the fed than they give to us, so it's really just on our own dime like it always has been. California has been and will continue to be a beacon to show the rest of the country how to do the right thing.

It's great how progressive California has been in so many ways; pushing the whole emission issue which effectively reduced smog, the current efforts to ban plastics helping to reduce landfills, efforts to support LGBTQ communities.....so many things.

But to protect illegal immigrants, people who deliberately and purposefully, broke laws, in my opinion is going too, too far. I understa the desire to protect "our community" and I empathize on so many levels with those who are worried and afraid for their status. But they took this risk in coming here illegally. They chose to go around our laws. This is WRONG. I get that many of you don't feel so and support the sanctuary stance. But I think you'll find that many, many feel it's gone way too far now.

Time will tell.

"Immigration enforcement away from the border is also expected to be strengthened by seeking an end to "sanctuary cities" where local law enforcement officials refuse to cooperate with federal immigration authorities.

Trump will call for an end to this practice and may instruct the federal government to stop providing certain funds to cities that refuse to comply."

Can some enterprising young reporter from the Voice ask chief Bosel for a list of all the laws we as a city and as individuals can now just chose to ignore?

I'm hoping for property and income taxes....that'd be pretty sweet.
