Donald J. Trump began his inaugural speech this morning by thanking the American people and the people of the world (which, I guess, refers to operatives in Russia).

Yes, Trump was resoundingly defeated in Santa Clara county, and 488 other counties across the United States. That being said, Trump resoundingly defeated Hillary in the remaining 2,623 counties of the United States.
Isn't it interesting that the people of great wealth and privilege, who claim to stand for inclusion of all peoples, reject the vast majority of the U.S. Population who are not so privileged, and decry them as "a basket of deplorables" and "unredeemable"? Doesn't labeling people "deplorable" and "unredeemable" demonstrate the same hate speech that our enlightened local residents proclaim to detest??

Lots of people voted for Trump for lots of reasons. I reserve the term deplorable for the neo-nazis and white supremacists that support Trump. OK to use the term for those particular folks? Doesn't matter, I'm doing it anyway.
My parents always said I would be judged by those I associated with...looks like some are just learning that now.

Also, the "vast majority" of voters voted for "Not Trump". One candidate got MILLIONS more votes than did Trump, so there was no majority support for Trump whatsoever if you look at the actual number of votes cast.
Or system does not run on majority of votes wins, and that's OK, but don't ever think that any majority of American voters put Trump in office because that simply did not happen.

I attended the Women's March today in Sacramento and am so glad I did. The "feel" of the event was one of community. The other marchers were polite and friendly. I've read since then that many thousands and thousands of women, men, and children marched in cities and towns all over the world. It inspires me to see photos of large crowds in San Jose, San Francisco, Redwood City, Sacramento, etc., not to mention the folks who traversed to Washington, DC. My favorite sign from today (which has lots of symbolism) was "Imagine all the people."
