A busy year for El Camino Hospital

Original post made on Jan 4, 2017

El Camino Hospital spent a lot of time in the spotlight this year, presenting big plans to expand both in and out of Mountain View, ousting its executive leadership and butting heads with its nursing staff over contract negotiations.

How does El Camino Hospital get away with categorizing the health care community as "competitive"? The only competitive thing they do is try to expand faster than the next guy, build bigger and fancier buildings and acquire more property. They do not try to be competitive on costs (I have documentation to show them charging about three times as much as Palo Alto Medical for a standard blood test), and they do not publish the effectiveness of their care as compared to other health providers. Stanford Medical does the same thing---expanding WAY beyond their communities, and making more and more money on which they do not pay taxes.(and our Government and Insurers pay the bills without question) We do NOT get the best care in the developed world, but we pay the most. Competitive???what a joke.

Something seems "fishy" when the El Camino Hospital's board of directors gives Tomi Ryba a $224,000 bonus for her performance as CEO, on top of her $800,300 annual salary. And then doesn't renew her contract since they obviously must not be satisfied with her performance. And then they nickel and dime the nurses on their contract...
Why are the El Camino Healthcare District taxpayers in Mountain View having to be taxed to support the El Camino extension in Los Gatos - and now probably South San Jose? I didn't get to vote on this. And the board held a secret "closed session" and unanimously agreed to purchase nearly 16 acres of undeveloped land in South San Jose, 19 miles away from the Mountain View campus.
I didn't get to vote on being taxed for locations in Los Gatos and South San Jose!

On Monday May 15, at 17:30 hours (530pm), the El Camino Healthcare District (ECHD) is holding a special meeting where the board is proposing to change the board composition from a resident-based ELECTED majority to a hospital-insider APPOINTED majority.

There is only one way to look at this: The ECHD is staging a hostile takeover and privatization of the control of the public property owned by the EHCD.

Moreover, the board has failed in its duty to inform the voters of the meeting. Yesterday, on May 4, I received in my mailbox, via US Mail, a pamphlet that informs about the meeting listed an already expired deadline of May 3, 5pm, for providing comment via the EHCD website (which they call "email"), or fax.

I question the legal authority of the meeting, given that proper notice for comment has not been given to the voters of the district. I also wonder whether the bylaws of the district at all allows to transfer control of the district, which in effect is a taxation privilege, out of the hands of the voters.

I have also observed that sometime In April residents of the district (MV, LA, LAH, SV and more) received a brag pamphlet about ECHD, which on the last page contains the following statement. "The Special District Leadership Foundation (SDLF) recognizes El Camino Healthcare District for outstanding efforts to transparency and good goverance". My foot, I would like to add.

The MV Voice should be reporting this story and questioning all aspects of the proposed and radical maneuver by the board.

I don't know anyone going to the doctor these days unless they are deathly ill or have a broken bone. Who can afford it with $1000 deductibles on overpriced medical plans?

People are finding acupuncture, holistic medicine and reiki to be a better more affordable solution! Plus it works! Wouldn't it be great if they built all these big fancy medical buildings and no one came? The only people that can afford to go to the doctor since obama care began are senior citizens on Medicare and low income groups who get their healthcare for for free, courtesy of the rest of us.
The whole system is corrupt and ruined. Obama care started it, then the insurance companies jumped on the opportunity to raise the rates and its gone downhill ever since.
There's way too much greed, ego and deception involved in the decisions being made by El Camino and the city of Mountain View. We live in Los Altos, but very close to El Camino Hospital. The decisions they make affect all of us. Just look at the traffic that they have created by allowing all these over sized buildings everywhere.

The solution is not to give the medical facilities your business, stay well! If you find yourself in need of help, use alternative medicine, I never thought I would say that but after trying it I realize it is superior to any conventional medicine!
