Who is this contractor? A local Mountain View company or a big name national company?

Seems to be a primer on how to pass the buck e.g "not my problem so I don't need to be part of the solution" mentality that seems so prevalent these days. Where have all the grown ups gone, gone to garbage everyone. Wait?! Is that the makings of a lyric for a new song?

What does this mean for the residents of Mountain View? Have we been showering in chemicals known to cause Cancer?

@Shumyla Jan -- In Mountain View, the main threat of exposure to TCE is from vapors that get trapped in buildings, if, for example, there are cracks in the foundation and the ventilation is poor. Mountain View's drinking water does not come from its groundwater, it comes from other sources -- mainly Hetch Hetchy.

The Navy dismantled and turned over Moffett Field to NASA in the summer of 1994. It's been 22 years and tens of millions of tax payer dollars spent trying to clean up the Superfund site and it's still contaminated. Three government agencies working together or not working together and in the mean time, the Moffett Field workforce and local community continues to worry about their environment and health concerns. If you are interested in learning more about polluted and contaminated government superfund sites scattered around the country, here is the link to follow:

Mountain View's own website says 3% of our drinking water comes from groundwater wells.
So let's not get too excited that we're not drinking this contaminated water.
We are.

"We are."
That's an abject lie Otto. Irresponsible and without any corroborating facts. Site the wells that we are pulling contaminated water from or quit spreading blatantly false rumors.
We'll wait here while you gather actual info instead of just your simmering lousy attitude about everything.

As Otto stated on the city web site There is a thing called Google for those who do not know. Lets hope the 2% is pulled from a safe location.

Good catch. From the city water info:
"Groundwater beneath the City of Mountain View is available in two aquifers separated by natural clay formations. Because City wells are drilled deep into the lower aquifer, the clay formations and geology help protect the City’s groundwater supply from contamination. Mountain View regularly tests water produced by City wells and conducts assessments to ensure the safety of its groundwater supply. e source assess- ments of Mountain View’s drinking water wells determined the City’s groundwater is potentially vulner- able to contamination from auto repair shops and leaking underground storage tanks, but noted these potential impacts are likely to be con ned to the upper aquifer. To receive a copy of the well assessment summaries, contact the Public Services Division at (650) 903-6329."
It would be interesting to know where the wells are and compare it to the MEW site TCE plume map. Obviously this isn't news to the water district folks who'd probably be happy to explain the situation if asked. Engineers love to talk. I seriously doubt anyone is pro-TCE.
