When will all the trees start coming down? And how many? What will be put up in their place? An ugly wall? What about grade separations? Why aren't Voice journalists pursuing these angles?

Some of your concerns are addressed at the Electrification page at Caltrain's website:

Where is Caltrain getting the mega $$$ for this much-needed improvement? Did they make a deal to get the cash from Gov Brown's environmentally insane High Speed Rail Project?

Electrification means reducing Caltrain diesel emissions in our neighborhood by 96 percent, enabling more stops, and providing faster service; all good outcomes. Especially so when ridership has increased by 70% in the last 6 years and shows no sign of slowing down.
All the details about the project, including funding, can be found at www.caltrain.com/electrification.
The latest passenger counts can be found at Web Link

I recently rode the electric Caltrain-style commuter train from Denver Airport to downtown Denver. It is DELUXE! I am so excited that Caltrain is doing this! Cleaner air! Way less noise from the diesel engines. Faster start times (have you ever ridden BART? - Then you know). This will cut time from the schedule and we can get places quicker. :)

I'm very excited about this project! To people who want to keep the old, loud, expensive, polluting trains, chill out. Change is not your enemy

Electric trains are the norm in developed nations around the world. I'm really shocked that California is finally catching up.
