Original post made on Nov 16, 2016

Mountain View could become more earthquake-ready, after the city's Environmental Planning Commission voted unanimously last week to clear the way for seismic upgrades to aging structures at high risk of collapse.

"But when landlords interested in making safety upgrades approach the city, they hit a brick wall."

You mean those same evil, greedy landlords I heard about running up to Measure V were actually interested in making their units safer for their tenants? I find that hard to believe, since you know, all they care about is money.

And I foresee SO many landlords wanting to pay for these safety upgrades now that their rents have been capped and they've lost control of their properties. Yeah right. But remember tenants, you did this to yourselves so now don't complain.

Landlords still whining about rent control? Democrats still whining about Trump? You might want to get involved before earthquakes hit.

Yes, Ha Ha, those greedy landlords who make less annual income on their property than a typical engineer. Those greedy middle class people's go now must subsidize rent for some lucky people who win the apartment lottery. Those same landlords with mortgages, taxes and higher maintenance costs than new buildings... Oh yeah. They've already list half their property value overnight. I doubt they'll be running to spend more money. Cheaper to buy insurance. But by all means people, enjoy your rent control.

The foolish homeowners who voted for this, guess what? Your property values will also be slowed or decreased.

Mountain View has not been very proactive on reducing existing earthquake hazards for existing buildings. As far as I've noticed, there is no -force- to the existing earthquake unsafe list. Only - the minumum required by state law. A list!

WARNING residents and visitors. This can mean commercial old buildings falling down on your head (example, death/injury in Santa Cruz from the Loma Prieta quake.) Warning "pancake" building residents and visitors - this can mean death in your home (San Fernando Earthquake soft-story apartments).
