After only 26 short years, the VTA finally noticed it was being short-changed by this contractor? And now the VTA wants another $6 billion and still plans to take the left lanes on El Camino for VTA BUSES ONLY. VOTE NO ON B. Let some other agency -such as the county - propose a real transportation and congestion relief plan in 2017.

Paratransit and Outreach rides for seniors are two entirely different
things. TVA gets $4 each for paratransit rides, and they do not accept
Clipper cards.
If you are disabled you can apply for TVA paratransit.
If you are a senior looking for a free ride within Santa Clara County
from Outreach which has provided these since 1993.
I saw your previous story which was misleading as it dealt only with
Paratransit.
I am an 82 yr. old disabled veteran who lives very near the San Antonio
Caltrain station and who relied on the Outreach senior free rides to get to
my clinic appointments, as there is no direct public transit connection from
San Antonio station to Palo Alto VA until a brief period in late afternoon
from VA to California St. Station.
Thousands of county seniors relied upon this former Outreach free ride
service with no replacement in sight, in fact the true nature of this
scandal (some theft of VTA funds at Outreach) has not been covered, or has
been misrepresented, as in your story last month.
Oh yes, I called 408-321-2300 after wasting a couple of hours calling
the old Outreach senior ride # 800-400-3440 (now out of order) or 408-
436-4860 which is misleadingly still on as of yesterday, saying to stay on
the line for the next operator ad infinitum. So I then called the old Outreach 'more info' # (408) 436-2865 where after many rings, some bored,
stupid sullen woman told me they were out of business for good, with no
no further explanation because she did not know nor care.
Fortunately, I have a news media background and called VTA and am
being sent an application for the $4 paratransit rides. But I am sure the
average county senior is befuddled and just gives up, missing medical
appointments, holiday social and family events, etc.
This is news, real news, which has not been covered at all. And the
second half of it is who or what is going is going to repair this mess
and restore free ride service to seniors? I heard it may be a year or never.
Coverage now of this matter is of vital public interest. I see you have
won awards for excellence, but certainly not for understanding in any way
what is going on at Outreach.
