This article popped up on my LinkedIn feed. I am from the Reno area so this story about Renown's former interim CEO is of interest to me. It seems as though someone with a biweekly salary of $50,000 could easily afford $5,000 a month in rent. El Camino's board should have some pretty compelling answers for their staff about why an interim executive is worth that much in comparison to the front-line staff. Priorities. Furthermore, while Sibery has held quite a few leadership positions, what's his track record. I know that when permanent leadership came to Renown, the hospital took a distinctly different strategic direction.

Sounds like the best appointment money can buy. I think there are a lot of us average Joes who would have liked to be considered for that contract. In my case I would have demanded the rent, of course, but also 5 catered dinners a week since I would be too busy banking to prepare food.

That's $650,000 over the life of the contract, which is 6 months. Not bad at all, no long term commitment and therefore no incentive to perform well. Add to that the free rent and monthly round-trip tickets for two.

What an outrageous contract! He gets $5,000 a week but can't afford a apartment or flights back home? This is money that should go to the nurses at El Camino - not poured into another fat management scheme.

I sincerely hope El Camino Hospital doesn't have the nerve to EVER AGAIN send me a letter asking for donations or to be put in my will. They can't be trusted with lunch money from now on.

Doesn't change the fact that this is the best hospital in our region. Excellence in care and caring folks there when you really need them. They still get my support and thanks.

Agree with you. However, how long do you think the staff will put up with this nonsense. The nurses in particular can't get the contract they not only want, but deserve. If and when they leave, that fact that it's the best hospital in teh area will most assuredly change.

Another egregious executive contract from a "not for profit" organization, while fighting with the nurses who actually provide the vast majority of the care to patients, arguably most important employees, over extremely reasonable elements of their contract. With management priorities like this, El Camino will not be one of the "best hospitals in the region" for very long. Here is a suggestion: reduce all management compensation by 15% and use that money to pay for a raise and "housing allowance" for the nursing staff. Put the money into actual health care instead of making the already wealthy and overpaid moreso. This is another example of why health care in the U.S. is the most expensive in the world. Web Link

It's always easier for those in power to spend other people's money.

All I have to remember an El Camino Hospital visit by was a C-Diff infection that had me making telephone doctor and nurse visits for several months.

I agree with Taxpayer, time to recall the board, in fact 2 of the board members are up this year, we don't have to vote them in again. It is pure disgusting on how top executives bargain for their contract. I'm surprised he didn't ask for a car allowance. These greedy individuals have no conscious and no loyalty to any company. All they want to do is come in throw their weight around, do nothing and get paid a hefty salary for it. And when they perform poorly, the board still pays them well and tells them to move on. It's a shame that the community continue to allow this to happen.
