Original post made on Oct 21, 2016

Residents in the Slater neighborhood were asked to shelter in place Thursday night after a transient man allegedly refused to leave a home on Gladys Avenue, and threatened a resident with what appeared to be a firearm.

Steven's creek has camps of these guys along the trail that have grown in size and numbers. Everyone knows where they are. One is right near the 85 over pass, right before you get to Gladys Ave. They need to be cleaned out for environmental concerns as well as safety.

The story should mention that they shot him and he was taken away in an ambulance

I was there!!! My house is a block over and I literally watched this happen. Idk where you get off making insane accusations or what that does for you. But no I'm not lying to somehow discredit the police. They do an amazing job, but the story isn't true to the facts and should be amended as such.

I just called the PD and they confirmed what I said.

The MVPD did an incredible job defusing this situation last night. I spoke with one of their representatives on Facebook while it was going on and they were quite courteous on updating us all.
What is troubling, however, is why the Voice left out the crucial fact that this man was indeed shot (once) during his arrest? My girlfriend and I both were listening to the altercation all night and we both heard the shot rang out followed by a "get on the ground, get on the ground!". The man was heard clearly moaning and was later taken away by ambulance.
I find it disturbing that not only was this fact omitted by the Voice, someone is actually trying to cover it up in the comments. I don't understand? The police did the BEST they possibly could have with the cards they were dealt, but surely we should be stating ALL the facts of what happened.

This newspaper is not run from Mountain View anymore, but from Palo Alto. Their reporting does not include sending a reporter out to cover a story. They just seem to reprint whatever the police or whoever else tells them. If the police don't tell them something happened they don't know to print it.

Certainly an approach that has its limitations.

On the other hand, how many of us pay anything to get our news? So we're part of the problem I suppose.

I live a few houses away from where this happened, and I can confirm what Alex said about hearing a single shot. A Police SUV sped away from the scene in the direction of the hospital 1 minute later. And I could still hear the man shouting, so I know the shot (if it hit him) was not fatal.
The MVPD did an amazing job from what we could see and hear. For nearly 3 hours this man was yelling obscenities at the police and they had so much patience with him. They went over and above trying to resolve the situation peacefully. It was a little scary seeing SWAT teams hiding out in our front yard, but we knew they had the situation covered from every angle. For the record, we were never told to stay indoors by anyone. But looking out our window, it was kind of obvious to do so.
What amazes me, is the entire road was shut down, the Slater parking lot was half full of police cars, a shot was allegedly fired, and after all that, nothing was in the news to let us know what the heck happened, and when you check the website map of police activity, it just says "Disturbance". That's it! Obviously on a Thursday night when only a small handful of officers are patrolling, to get the number we saw by the time the conflict resolved, a lot of good officers must have been called back while probably home and off duty to come quick to help resolve this. It was major. And all we get is "Disturbance"? I love our police department. I just wish information on what happened was more clear to the residents who had to nervously hear that entire event unfold.

When asked by our reporter, police denied that anyone was shot or transported to the hospital during the incident.

Mountain View police now say that the suspect was shot with a bean-bag round, and then with a taser. He was cleared by medics to go to jail, but was not taken to the hospital. The story has been updated to reflect the newly released information.

We appreciate the comments letting us know there was more to the story than what was initially released.

I had criticized the lack of information earlier, but for a resident who was watching and listening to this all happen outside our window, I feel like this updated version of the article explains everything we were curious about. I really appreciate the edits!
And I'm so proud to live in Mountain View where our police are on top of it! Respect for using non-lethal but effective force and bringing a peaceful resolution to the long evening.

Andrea, it's great that you're coming out and personally commenting on this event, love that you've thanked all for their updates to MV Voice reporting and adding that your "news" has been updated.

I'm curious, why have you not done the same for the Rent Control issues and comments. You say you "appreciate comments letting you know there is more to the story than Was previously released."

When will you run a counter article to the multiple pro-rent control biased articles you've run? When will you even let the other side present their FACTUAL information?
