Uber is so scary. The drivers receive little training and minimal background checks. Some drivers are great, but there are enough bad ones that we never use Uber any more.

This sort of thing happens far more from non-professionals than it does for cab or Uber drivers. It's more of a lesson that you DO NOT mess with parking control officers. They may not be real cops in your eyes, but they have a direct connection to the real cops who LOVE to come in and help when someone is being a jerk.

A lot of Uber drivers fall far short of "professional"

But think of it from the driver's point of view. He's probably working because he needs to, and to get a ticket is costly. It seems as if the officer could have been nicer and given him a verbal warning instead of being immediately punative. Sure the driver was wrong, and he probably needs to learn that speaking nicely may have avoided a ticket being issued at all...sometimes that's all it takes. But I'd like to think that Mountain View law enforcement is kinder than doling out instant punishment when it comes to parking violations.

If I understood correctly, the driver was IN his car and did not leave it unattended. I would have thought some other interaction with the driver of an occupied vehicle, rather than the issuance of a parking ticket, might have been more appropriate. This guy will be in a world of hurt now though.

Agreed. I think the parking control officer was VERY over zealous in ticketing the driver under those circumstances. It's just too bad he ruined any chance of coming out on top of this situation by his own over zealous actions.

S/he couldn't just ask him to move?
Seems a bit confrontational to me.
And what has Uber have to do with this - Why is that even mentioned?

Why should he have to ask him to move? These drivers regularly park wherever the feel. Even with available parking spots they still decide to block traffic causing others to have to pass on drive in on coming traffic lanes. The police dept. should start issuing violations on the fly.

"I'm only gonna park here for a few minutes while I schedule my next ride" is not a permit to park illegally.

The Uber Passengers has no respect for the drivers, they just taking advantage of a cheap ride from Uber and destroyed the drivers reputation after. Majority of those Uber Passengers will receive a 1 star at their job.

Stopping in a red zone is a safety hazard and these Uber people are a safety hazard if they think they can get away with it. I am glad the cop ticketed him. Let this send a message to all Ubers.

Too much aggression over ticket. Glad he is in jail. Also glad nobody got hurt. His Uber career is over. And not only Uber .... He needs to lern how to behave in this country. Mohamnadi clearly has some kind of problem.

"These drivers regularly park wherever the feel."
You realize everyone violates traffic law, right? Everyone drops off a spouse in red zones. Everyone says "f- it" and hops in 1 of the 3 handicap spots so they can get their take-out. That's common. Not every little thing requires a punitive fine,
I expect humanity from law enforcement, and civility from the public.

Why was the curb red? It was an unsafe place to park. Every driver knows it is illegal to park in a red zone. Why did the driver flaunt the law and do it anyways? He thought he would not get caught. The driver got caught. So why is it the police officer's fault? The driver then intentionally drives into the police car. All I can say is *thank you MVPD* for getting this insane person off the road.

No, not everyone stops to drop people off at a crosswalk red zone, especially on a street that is busy enough to be patrolled by a parking control officer.
If you can't afford to pay the fine, then don't do the crime.

I don't think he's a bad Uber driver. He just an inconsiderate driver. There are plenty of those around. I don't know how many times I have waited behind someone that's doubled park to drop off or pick up someone in a no-parking zone. It doesn't matter if it only takes one minute or 5 minutes, these inconsiderate people are oblivious to other people's time.

Come to the Crossings of Mountain View if you want to experience people parking illegally day and night. It's the same people day and night with that look on there face that says "What's the big deal? I know better than the law or the public safety reasons behind no parking zones. Afterall, I'm an engineer working in high-tech and all latest apps." Underneath it all, however, it's just laziness coupled with a boorish over bearing sense of entitlement.
