Why is booze allowed at these concerts? To jack up the amphitheater profits at the expense of public safety?

The problem isn't really the alcohol. They serve booze at the symphony and opera -- not just here in the USA, all over symphony halls and opera houses around the world.

The problem is here is a small minority of the people who attend these types of concerts.

Let's face it, whether you like it or not, alcohol is here to stay. Educating people to have a mature attitude toward alcohol and to enjoy in moderation is where the focus should be.

It's not like we can restrict alcohol consumption to only people in padded cells.

Also, it would be impossible to legislate every bit of risk out of life. Bad things occasionally happen, sometimes to innocent and good people.

If you want zero risk in your life, you should never leave the house. Even then, there's a chance of you slipping and falling in your own bathtub.

Living life has some risk and danger. Always.

Let's also remember that alcohol is taxed. It generates sales tax revenue for the county, not just profits for venue concession operators.

Regrettably, it just appears to be human nature. Put 22,000 or so people in a confined area, throw in some alcohol or other stimulants and there you have it. The lost art of acting with an appreciation of personal consequences be "darned" in the moment. Party!!

Shoreline's down-market lineup attracts a trashy crowd, time to tear it down. They were intoxicated! Is anyone surprised? This is not a chardonnay and brie crowd more like Bud & pork rinds.

If you put thousands of people together in a small space, a few bad things are bound to happen. But also good things. Two guards received non-serious bite marks -- thousands enjoyed the music. On balance, I would say that the concert brought more joy than misery to the world.

@RazeShoreline:

Yes, let's only let the San Francisco Symphony perform at Shoreline Amphitheater (like they do for the annual Independence Day concert). Extreme elitism is the solution.

Let's face it. The folks who got arrested might be liable to exhibit the same behavior at a bar, neighborhood BBQ or sporting event.

There is a long tradition of partying and boorish behavior at musical performances. Now, I'm definitely not saying that if people got in fisticuffs at live performances two hundred years ago, that justifies such behavior in 2016, but badly behaving concert goers definitely isn't a recent development.

The enjoyment of live music with others is a common human interest in *ALL CULTURES.* It would be impossible to regulate that out of existence, it goes against human desire, like banning dancing, drawing, painting, or reciting poetry.

The world is a messy place at times. Sorry that some of you haven't yet figured that out as adults.

The core values of a human being is what the problem is. Factor in the recipe of drugs or alcohol and unspeakable heinous actions occur. Reasonable people don't react under the influence. Punks are just punks. Exactly why birth control is underrated! Stop the breeding!!!

@reader - Who said anything about only allowing classical music? I don't go to the Symphony, not a fan, and to construe my comments as being elitist or prejudicial against other cultures is puzzling, what 'culture' are you referring to? Are drunks and thugs a protected class now?. And I totally agree with you "There is a long tradition of partying and boorish behavior at musical performances". My point exactly. Raze Shoreline.

It might have been your comment, "This is not a chardonnay and brie crowd more like Bud & pork rinds." that made @reader comment the way he did.

I also immediately thought that you were saying that the richer the crowd, the less issues.

His Facebook page? You have been stalking him. He may need to get sober, but you need some help too!

LOL just kidding!

Indeed, it was RazeShoreline's poorly chosen words that elicited my comment.

Next time, try to be more thoughtful about what words you use.

Anyhow, you didn't really get it. The problem is a handful of people who are going to cause problems regardless of the venue or situation. No one is going to raze Shoreline Amphitheater in the foreseeable future. Getting rid of a venue doesn't eliminate the problem, it just forces the migration of said troublemakers to a different location.

Not only does this stink of elitism, it also stinks of NIMBY-ism.

Just to let you know...

Checking a FB page is not stalking. If it was, every employer would be guilty. If I was a troublesome drunk I wouldn't have a fb page because eventually you're going to make the paper.
