Sounds like she needs mental health care, not jail

Reagan closed the mental health facilities so all we have left is jail.
I hope they don't throw the book at her (pun intended)

Yes, this woman needs help. And we should help her with it.
Its so easy to blame others, especially the late Ronald Reagan. He did not put mental patients on the street. It was a bill that was pushed primarily by a group of young, liberal activists on the Assembly Office of Research staff. It was sold to Democrats as a civil-rights measure and sold to Republican Gov. Ronald Reagan as a savings--community care, without the long-term costs of custodial care in state hospitals, would cut California's mental health care costs. The Lanterman-Petris-Short Act (LPS) had good aim but bad results.

We need legislators who have the guts to revisit old legislation and make corrections.

Kal is absolutely correct! Ronald Ragan was stuck implementing the laws passed by his predecessor.

I sure wish the liberals who fought against the hosp closures in the 80's had won. And I also wish the conservatives did more hand wringing about how they really wished they didn't have to do it. They propped it up on their shoulders as a heroic act. I recall the fight and the sides taken as my brother was directly affected.
We all lie in the beds we made, even Ronald Reagan.

Bush cut taxes by 857 billion dollars, money that could have been used by communities for things other than making the wealthy wealthier:

Another perspective on Reagan- He never tried to fund community centers.

And remember the "Power of the Purse" lies with congress. What has our current congress done to help?

Don't do to this lady what Philippine President Duterte did to drug smugglers.

Well - the important thing is that officers took her *somewhere*. They didn't beat her or shoot her. That's one good thing about living in Mountain View. But I agree that she needs a psych eval, and she'll only get the most cursory kind imaginable in jail: Q. Is she walking and talking? A: She must be okay, then.

Wait a second.. you all are blaming Ronald Reagan for this? He was Governor like 50 years ago..

And Reagan didn't close all mental hospitals. He started closing them.. it continued under the next governor which was JERRY BROWN.

And today the Democrats are firmly in control of both houses plus the Governor's mansion right now. So why aren't they doing something about this great injustice?

It's silly to blame Republicans for something that happened 50 years when Democrats have all the power right now. Shouldn't you be blaming them for NOW for failing to re-open all these wonderful mental hospitals?

One party isn't the issue, both of them are. Stop falling for it.

Try to blame Reagan all you want. The "deinstitutionalization" was started by liberal icon and hero of Vietnam, JFK.

AND for anyone no insisting on being partisan, Geraldo Riviera's Willowbrook expose did more to "shut down the mental institutions" than anyone else ever did.
