I wonder if it's the same guy who grabbed a purse of the shoulder of a woman at Stanford Shopping Center?

"The officers saw Patterson try to snatch the woman's purse from her shoulder"

You could also report: The thief ignored the women who carried their purse in a more secure fashion, focusing on the easier target of a shoulder carried purse.

In other news, people who left their valuables in their cars in plain sight were robbed while those who took the extra step of putting valuables away did not become victims.
And coming up, residents who did not lock their doors were more likely to be burglarized while they were at work

Just to offer the other perspective:

Locks keep honest people honest. It works very well for that. But someone who really wants to steal... will.

I leave my car windows cracked a bit when parked. Not only to keep it from getting hot. But because if you really are truly committed to stealing a USB cable from my cigarette lighter charger... you can do it without breaking my windows and costing me my deductible.

For similar reasons, I don't lock every lock of my doors. But I make them really squeaky. The lock won't keep out a determined thief. But the noise will let me know you're there.
