The person who died in that accident was my good friend's brother. Don't forget that person who lost a life has a family, with a beautiful wife and two children, 2 beautiful sisters, and a brother, and a father. I grew up right in that area, and is a beautiful area. Believe the first poster was quite inconsiderate. Thank you 2nd poster.
God bless you Matt.

@member...
I know a Matt Maki and I'm of course wondering. I'm sorry to hear of your friend's brother's passing. Do you know if he was once a Sales Director at Hyperion Solutions?

Something seems very odd, about this accident. I drive that stretch of road almost every day, and can't imagine how someone could hit a tree, unless something went very wrong. The other issue, is how often does an accident result in a fire?

There are lots of common reasons that something like this could have happened. The car could have experienced a tire blowout or other mechanical failure, causing the driver to lose control. Another car could have cut off the driver, causing him to lose control while avoiding a collision. The driver could have experienced a medical problem. Distracted driving can lead to the loss of control of your car. Hopefully, witnesses will come forward.

When driving past today, I noticed the burnt tree. It is very lucky that a fire didn't spread. There is a fire station less than 1 mile away, so they probably got there very quickly. I was hiking in the open space reserve at the time, and noticed the black smoke. Frankly, I was worried that my house might have caught fire.

Last comment: why didn't the air bags work? The speed limit if 45, so even if you hit that tree head-on, wouldn't you still survive?

a head-on, dead center into a tree is about the worst case scenario in terms of things you can hit with regards to injury or fatality. Don't put too much trust in how safe car makers say their cars are. Yes, 45 into a tree like this can easily be fatal, even w/ airbags, though the actual speeds driven on that section are usually higher than the posted 45.

We felt so sad when we heard the news Monday afternoon.and thinking.. I myself have been using that route going and after work for more than 20 years.And since that accident happened, I cant help myself looking on that area where the accident happened. I am working in Los Altos Care which is just located at the other side of the road. All of us are sending our sympathy to the family of Mr. Matthew Maki.

I was caught up in the aftermath of the traffic. Then I found out I knew him. I worked for him years ago. He was a great guy, great boss. We always talked sports because our kids were in little league and I believed he coached. Very very sad. My best to his family.
