Seeking spare rooms to house teachers

Original post made on Aug 11, 2016

It's not easy being a public school teacher in the Bay Area. Teachers in local school districts have made it clear, in one poll after another, that the high cost of living in Silicon Valley is taking its toll in the form of long commutes and an increasing chunk of their take-home pay going toward rent. The big question facing many school districts is what to do about it.

Renting a room to a teacher can truly save a career but the bigger problem is that teachers simply do not make enough money to live on the local economy.

I would be the first to admit that greed / avarice has wrecked housing availability for huge numbers of local residents but my hat is off to Sangeeth Peruri for asking the community to help out.

RE: Help for teachers and other renters...

Dear Friends,
We applaud the school district to search for solutions for suitable housing for teachers.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors (NHN) is a local non profit with basic needs programs, housing and experienced and trained counselors.

WEnjoy have many teachers enrolled in our Housing Networks. Besides rentals matched to individual needs, clients receives support during and after rental search from a professional property management team.

It is even more important then ever before tenants know their rights and responsibilities. This would be especially true for those renting rooms in houses, renting rooms in apartments and other dwellings. The subset of Landlord Tenant Laws, rules & practices governing these subletting (roommates) and room rentals in homes (lodgers) situations can be a devastating experience if the roommateam or lodger is catch unaware of their rights & responsibilities if conflict(s) arise.

It's prudent to know the nuances of room rentals before move in.

Contact NHN, we are happy to help information you. And help find suitable rentals.

Ask for "Relocation Packet". Best possible outcomes happen when you go prepared. Complete 'NHN Relocation Package' include rental application, credit bureau, proof of income and make copies. When in doubt, or presented w/a barrier, ASK. We are here to help...

Google is doing the right thing. When more rental units are needed you dense pack a city which is even more necessary with the water issue. High density planning is gong on in Portland and in water starved San Diego. Government is the problem. The Buena Vista trailer park and rent controls in San Jose are literally like bombing the cities tax receipts and the production of many new units wise. Why can't the politicians remember high school economics and economics 101? In any case the San Jose city council has received the notice of intent of the San Jose Property Rights Initiative. I know some nurses and a couple clerks that are in need of housing. They service this community as well. Is this discrimination. Please don't get me wrong teachers are important but so are other professions. After all you liberals want to pay entry level positions 15 - 16 dollar an
hour. Driving up prices.
