What to expect when Google Fiber comes to town

Original post made on Jul 18, 2016

Google Fiber has been hailed by many observers as a much-needed shake-up for the local telecommunications market. But to hear the story from other areas already equipped with ultra-fast broadband, the new service might not be the overnight sensation its fans anticipate.

I think people in Silicon Valley are much much more likely to trust Google Fiber over the long time providers than the people in Kansas City are.

Sounds good. Please install Sleeper Ave. first. Thanks.

I'm not sure why we're talking about Kansas City, when Chattanooga TN already
has *municipal gigabit*.

MV is still listed on the Google Fiber map as a "potential" city, and there's nothing on the Google Fiber blog about it. By the way, that "citywide map" you refer to -- a link would be useful.

To sum up the article: Sure, it'll be ~amazing~. But it just might not be a hit among people who still think cameras can steal your soul.

Shut up and take my money.

Is "the Map" available? I received an offer for AT&T Gigabit at 70/mo.

@Kyle, Google took my soul long ago when I created a gmail account. I'm all for anything that helps me get my targeted ad money's worth ;-)

My son lives in KC, is definitely not well-heeled. Gladly gave up time Warner and loves his new Google fiber. He lives in the northern part of KC.

I am so ready to dump comcast. They charge a fortune. I am so annoyed by Comcast's cost that even if Comcast was to drop their price *below* Google fiber I would still ditch Comcast.

I hope Google Fiber happens yesterday!

Thanks for the map!

So why doesn't Google mention this on their blog, or in their plans? It's not shown as "upcoming", just "potential". No change since last year this time.

Is there a higher resolution version of the map available? I can't read it.
