What about the role health insurance companies play by routinely denying coverage for hospitalization and intensive therapy? How many people who die by suicide were discharged prematurely? Also what about the lack of mental health services for young people and their families? Thanks for this article. We need to bring suicide and mental health struggles out of the shadows.

I agree with Concerned Parent. Illness of the mind need treatment just like illnesses of the body. This month's O magazine has a great article on thisismybrave.org about brave people speaking out about their mental illnesses. According to kids data.org, mental health issues are the number one reason youth are hospitalized in California. Yet, our county's only children's hospital, Lucille Packard, does not provide a single bed for anyone who is having a mental health crisis. Shameful!
