This was a fight they couldn't win. Sometimes these things happen. I just hope the owners of Morocco's remember that when one door closes, another opens. It would be nice to see them move closer to downtown where there is more foot traffic for restaraunts. I'm not a fan of the food at this place, but the festivities they include are fantastic. In a more crowded area, people would love this.

The present value of a long term lease with low rent for the next 12 years is considerable. Then there's the business lost by a construction shutdown and/or relocation. Another consideration is the reduced quality of the available space post-rebuild compared to what Morocco's has now.

So a "discounted" lease is not the only obligation of the landlord. He'd be singing
a different tune if there were vacancies and it was the restaurant which wanted
to relocate. This is a big cost the developer will need to bear.

Food there is not that good. Sorry. Just saying.

This part of Castro is not a great location for a restaurant. The first couple blocks of Castro off of ECR have always been lower end retail, furniture, carpeting, sporting goods and auto repair. Perfect location for family owned businesses, but eateries here would come and go. Currently this block looks run down and new buildings along here will really improve this entrance to Mountain View.

While Morocco's in trying to stand out, it is actually an eyesore to those who are not fans of the restaurant. Try to imagine how it would fit in with the new building design.

Instead of fighting a losing battle with the landlord and blocking the plans for needed improvement, Morocco would be smart to find another location closer to other restaurants where they can get more foot traffic. Right now some of the other stores on their block include medical office, an insurance agent, a nail spa, another restaurant and a casket store...probably not helping their business. They could do better.
