BookBuyers' new Gilroy home

Original post made on Jun 7, 2016

After being priced out of town, Mountain View's much-loved used bookstore, BookBuyers, is going down a similar path to many hard-pressed residents -- it's relocating to a cheaper area. In an announcement last week, the bookstore's owner announced he will reopen his shop in downtown Gilroy starting in July.

Glad to hear BookBuyers found a new home.

That said, if they are going to survive, they really need to consider online sales through a used book marketplace like Abebooks.

I'm not convinced they will have enough foot traffic to keep a bricks-and-mortar-only book business afloat even if they are paying less in rent.

Gilroy is a considerably smaller town than Mountain View with a population density about half of that of Mountain View. Also, it's a rather rural community, not like the suburban South Peninsula with towns adjacent to each other (Palo Alto, Los Altos, Mountain View, Sunnyvale). Also, the per capita income in Mountain View is nearly twice that of Gilroy's.

Anyhow, best of luck to Ajaya.

If he wants to stay open this time, it might be good to consider SELLING books as a priority, not simply exchanging bags and bags and bags and bags of books for other books.

I was saddened when I heard BookBuyers was closing. It was my favorite "go-to" place. Unfortunately, Gilroy is a bit too far for me.
I am going to miss you guys BIG-TIME!

Wishing you all good things in your new location.

That would help, as wood digitizing the inventory so that you could check online to see if a particular book is available.

Unfortunately, that requires lots of staff time to keep current.
